Elko City : Nevada

Elko is a city in Elko County, and was named for the herds of elk who once inhabited the area. It is on the Humboldt River. It covers a total area of 37.5 km² (14.5 mi²), all land.

Elko has a moderate climate with hot and dry summers. Winter experiences some amount of snowfall. The average high temperature in January is 36.6 degrees and the average low is 13.2 while in July the average high is 91 degrees and the low 50.3 degrees.

Population : 16,685 as on 2005
